Ecologist

Orange, NSW | Full time

If you’re an early to mid-career Ecologist looking to build your skills across a solid mix of fieldwork and reporting, this is a great opportunity to step into a supportive, well-established team. Based in Orange, you’ll work across varied projects while learning from experienced ecologists and contributing to meaningful environmental outcomes.

About the role

You’ll be involved in the day-to-day delivery of ecological projects, with a strong focus on field surveys, data collection and technical reporting. Your work will support environmental assessments and approvals, with guidance from senior team members along the way.

This role offers a good balance between time in the field and time in the office. You’ll assist with biodiversity surveys, contribute to reports and learn how projects are scoped and delivered. As you grow, you’ll start to take on more responsibility for managing your own tasks and engaging with clients.

What we’re looking for

Must-haves:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related field
  • Around 1–5 years’ experience in a similar or relevant role
  • A solid understanding of ecological survey methods and basic environmental legislation
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail in reporting
  • A current driver’s licence and willingness to undertake fieldwork

Nice to have (but not essential):

  • Progress toward BIS/BAM accreditation in NSW
  • Experience working on environmental impact assessments or approvals
  • Familiarity with NSW biodiversity frameworks

The team & environment

You’ll be part of a collaborative ecology team that values practical learning and knowledge sharing. Senior ecologists are hands-on and accessible, so you’ll have the support you need without being micromanaged. The work is varied, and projects range in size and complexity, giving you exposure to different sectors and landscapes.

Why join

  • Birthday leave
  • Study Assistance Program to support your development
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Paid parental leave top-up
  • Reward and recognition program
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Milestone rewards
  • Annual $250 wellbeing subsidy
  • Referral bonus scheme

This is a role where you can build strong technical foundations, gain exposure to a wide range of projects and steadily develop your career in ecology.
